American Express Championship

The PGA Tour returns to mainland USA, arriving in California for the American Express Championship. One of the rare events that utilizes multiple courses in one event, three courses: PGA West (Stadium Course), La Quinta Country Club and PGA West (Nicklaus Tournament Course) will host the opening three rounds of the tournament, before all golfers finish Sunday on the Stadium Course. Because of the unusual three-course rotation, the tournament cut will come after 54 holes instead of the usual 36.

The Field

With the return to California, many of the Tour’s stars have shown up to play this week, including: Patrick Cantlay, Jason Day, Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler, Phil Mickelson and Jon Rahm.

Last year Si Woo Kim narrowly edged out Patrick Cantlay to win the tournament. Kim will return to defend his title, as will 13 other former winners of the event. No player has successfully defend since Johnny Miller in 1975-76
