Just a short drive from London Ontario, FireRock Golf Club is a solid test of golf from start to finish. With the Oxbow River running through the course and a strong mix of natural terrain, smart architecture and excellent maintenance noticeable throughout, you will no doubt enjoy a round here at FireRock.
Beginning on the first tee with an elevated first drive into a dogleg scattered with bunkers throughout, all the way to the picturesque 18th which goes down and then back up again, there was hardly a dull moment and required every club in the bag to be used.
I mentioned the course maintenance, but the speed of the greens and the thickness of the rough really stood out. Be careful you don’t run your first few putts off the green, there’s a nice roll to them. That being said, they are very smooth and not incredibly difficult to read, so it makes for a good experience on the short stuff. Getting there can be tough, though. The strategy of this course, designed by Thomas McBroom, allows for an array of risk/reward holes to go along with some very tough ones and a few relatively easy ones. The balance of trees, bunkering and slopes are a challenge, but the rough was the biggest test for me. It wasn’t overly long per se, but incredibly thick. Multiple times I took an extra club out of the rough and still found myself coming up short and not getting good clean contact on the ball. Overall this was a fun, challenging golf course that may not make it into my top-5, but is certainly yet another great course in Ontario, and well worth your time.

  • Really Nice Golf Carts
  • Staff were extremely welcoming and kind
  • A few holes had some tough sight lines off of tees or into greens. As a first time player at FireRock I was a little confused a few times
  • Small complaint but there was no beverage cart out on the course. Not a big deal at all though
  • Nice driving range, they even do the pyramid ball setup
  • Couldn’t really go into the clubhouse (COVID restrictions) but it looked like they have a nice facility and a good outdoor patio area to enjoy some post-round food and drinks
