Notes:
Last Week –
After a mediocre start to the week, Justin Thomas put on a clinic over the weekend en route to yet another big win, his first Players Championship. There were a few other stories that captured most of the headlines throughout the week, though. First up was the crazy half-hour stretch on Sunday afternoon in which we saw Brendon Todd shank a tee-shot on the 17th that nearly landed on the decorative island halfway between the 16th and 17th greens, followed by Bryson DeChambeau cold-topping his tee-ball into the water on the 4th tee and then hitting his next one as far right as anyone has ever hit a golf ball. And finally, not to be outdone was his playing partner Lee Westwood, who was next up to play and hit a banana cut that went directly into the water. Not something you see from pros too often, never mind three times in such a short stretch.

And then there were two audio clips that got their fair share of play. Jordan Spieth and Collin Morikawa hitting into Rory Sabbatini’s group and not realizing there was a hot mic nearby that caught the whole conversation (the clip has been scrubbed from the internet as far as I can tell, but you can find enough if you go digging), and these revelatory comments from Rory McIlroy about the current state of his game:

This Week – Another tournament that’s been hurt by its tough spot on the schedule, The Honda Classic will still be worth tuning into this weekend if for nothing else than to see “The Bear Trap.” As the name implies, this course was built by Jack Nicklaus and boasts arguably the toughest finishing stretch on the PGA Tour.

Tiger Update – Mr. Woods has made a public statement announcing his return home and thanking everyone for all the support he has received. He also inked a new deal with 2k, a video game company that has taken over the void left in the space by EA Sports. Tiger of course used to have his name on EA’s game, but will return with 2k in a yet to be announced manner. Nonetheless this is big news for golf fans and gamers alike.
