The Tour’s top players are gathered in Massachusetts this week for the first-leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, where 125 players will battle for only 70 spots in next week’s field. TPC Boston will play host to The Northern Trust, a course we’ve seen both on the PGA Tour, and in video games like Tiger Woods PGA Tour. Suffice to say, golf fans should be plenty familiar with the course this week.
Speaking of Tiger Woods, he returns to action this week at #49 in the FedEx Cup standings, a long way behind leaders Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Webb Simpson. As mentioned, the field will be trimmed to 70 for next week’s BMW Championship, and then 30 for the following week’s Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta. Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the event due to injury and his playoffs are essentially finished. Look for Brooks to return to action at Winged Foot in mid-September for the U.S. Open.
