Other: Finally an event with some tournament history. It’s far from the top field we will see on the calendar (FAR from it) but after two weeks on new courses it’s nice to be able to get a full slate of info when researching an event. Other than that, this event is just about as exciting as the name implies. Case in point the odds for this week. Not only is the favourite at 18/1 (a number usually below 10 to 1), the top two favourites (Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa) are Tour rookies with 7 pro starts COMBINED. That being said, the field is wide open and could make for a high payout if we are able to pick a winner. There is also one spot left up for grabs in next weeks Open Championship. The winning score here last year was 27-under-par, so don’t be surprised if one or even multiple “lesser known” players get hot for a few days and see themselves on the final page of the leaderboard come Sunday afternoon. These weeks are great for golf nerds and journeyman storylines, but not so great for the casual fan hoping to tune in on Sunday and see some big names dueling down the stretch. So plan accordingly.
