On Ranking his 2018 Season

  • “The most rewarding. There was a point where I didn’t know if I’d ever do this again.”
  • “Going into ’18, it was let’s see if I can get through the West Coast. Now I know I can do that and manage and make sure I’m fresh.”

On his schedule last year

  • “I was not physically prepared to play that much golf at the end of the year. I played seven out of nine to end the year.”
  • “It was hard for me to maintain my strength and my weight. I was exhausted by the time I got to the Ryder Cup. Thank god it started on Friday”
  • “Playing 7 of last 9 last year was too much.”

On “The Match”

  • I should’ve played better
  • “Overall the experience was positive. There are some things we can do better. I wish we could have played better. We should have each made seven, eight birdies.

On The Presidents Cup

  • “Would I like to be a playing captain? Yes. If I make the team on points than yes, I will play. If I don’t make it on points, then it’s up to myself and my vice captains.

On his schedule for 2019

  • “Now I know I can do it. It’s just about managing it and making sure I’m fresh for events because I know I can win now
  • “Physically I have to be in better shape. There is literally a big tournament every month.”

On his current health and status

  • “I put back on the weight I lost during the season, but then lost it last weekend when I was sick.”
  • “I don’t train anywhere near like I used to. My training sessions have been good. My core and legs are stronger. Now I’ve gotta work on my game.”

On breaking 18 Majors

  • “I feel like I’ve got a chance to do something in my 40’s. It’s a matter of doing it. I’ve proven to myself that I can put myself it position. It gives me a lot of confidence.”

His best shot in 2019

  • “How I viewed it at the time, in the moment, the shot I hit down 10 at The Open Championship. I thought this is the tournament. I win the Open Championship or I lose it on this shot”

On celebrating his win at the Tour Championship

  • “We didn’t celebrate it. Didn’t really do anything. Not until I got home, our attention was to get ready for the Ryder Cup.”
