Thoughts on Justin Thomas + WGC – Mexico: Picks and Preview (Correctly Picked Winner last 2 weeks)

An F-Bomb, an Ejection, and a Twitter apology; that’s what the golf world (and, in some cases mainstream sports media) were talking about after Justin Thomas captured the Honda Classic on Sunday, defeating Luke List in a playoff. Not that it was his 7th win in his last 31 starts, his stuffed approach to get into the playoff, or the fact that he has arguably surpassed Dustin Johnson as the current top player in the world in the eyes of many.

That is the feeble nature of the sports world, and in a way, the world we currently live in. Personally I couldn’t care less if someone yells something AFTER the ball is in the air, or even if a player DOES get annoyed with a fan and has him removed. But apparently I’m in the minority with that opinion, as Social Media has lit UP this week, Justin Thomas being the main target of ire. He has since released this apology/explanation.

JT Fans

One one hand, this IS sort of becoming a pattern for Justin, making comments about the crowds at the Waste Management Phoenix Open a few weeks ago. But on the other, the guy was coming down the stretch trying to win a golf tournament. Golf is unlike other sports in the closeness of the fans and their ability to stick beside you no matter where you are. So its understandable that during a moment of stress one may lash out (See, Rory McIlroy 2016 Ryder Cup). That being said though, Paris is the site of the 2018 Ryder Cup and JT is the leader in the clubhouse for European Fans as Public Enemy No. 1

WGC – Mexico

After leaving Trump Doral last year and moving to Mexico, the Tour returns to Club de Golf Chapultepec, a 7,330 yard, par 71 course– where the winning score was -14 by DJ, with Tommy Fleetwood and Jon Rahm nipping at his heels. All three of those studs are back in what will be a limited field event, around 64 players teeing it up.

This is a case where less means more. The field is STACKED. And there’s no Cut, so we will see Four rounds from everyone unless they Withdraw. I could literally post the entire field and it would look impressive, but for the sake of my fingers typing that all out, and the intention of actually keeping you the reader interested, I wont do that. But check out these names: Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, Jon Rahm, Daniel Berger, Patrick Cantlay, Paul Casey, Jason Dufner, Tony Finau, Tommy Fleetwood, Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia, Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson, Alex Noren, Thomas Pieters, Patrick Reed, Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, and Justin Thomas comes in looking for back-to-back wins. That’s just some… Doesn’t get much better than THAT

Who do I think will fare well? First things first I’ve trimmed the field down to 27 players through Recent Finishes, Finish in this event last year (Only time played on this course), and Recent form by Stats. Here are those guys:
